The Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority, in response to identified needs for improved infrastructure and creative access in the community of Topeka, Kansas, launched a bike share program as part of an overall City Bikeways Master Plan. I worked with Topeka Metro from late 2014 through late 2015 to conduct a Health Impact Assessment, which identified how implementation and expansion of bike share could impact health in the community and provided recommendations to decision-makers for supporting positive health impacts.
“Kate produced superlative research on our bikeshare project. Without much outside aide, she gathered materials and drafted an extensive Health Impact Assessment, which I’m sure will be a standard in the state for years to come.”

KCYA has been delivering arts education programing to schools in the Kansas City area for over 50 years. From 2012 to 2013 I worked with KCYA, primarily through the KU Med Center, to develop assessment surveys for K-2nd grade youth, administer surveys in classrooms in two local schools, input data into SPSS, and analyze the data providing results to the organization for tracking progress and deliverables. I will be working with KCYA as an independent contractor from 2013-2014 to collect and analyze data from 2nd grade classrooms in a KC Metro Area school district.
As a marketing, content & social media consultant for YourGardenShow.com, the free social network for gardeners, I co-produced Grow it Forward, an heirloom seed contest to inspire biodiversity and the sharing of gardening legacy, developed resources for the site’s Citizen Science platform (launched May 2011), edited web content, wrote press releases, developed and implemented social media strategy, and successfully used a variety of voices to appeal to diverse audiences. Concurrently, I executed targeted outreach to the gardening and blogging community.
A boutique sustainability-consulting firm, G-Rock hired me to develop their web content and create marketing materials for green clients. This included, for instance, sales sheets for organic products and a brochure for a green entrepreneurship workshop at the Universidade Lusófona in Portugal.
“Kate helped us to rethink our programs and development materials. Her communication and creative skills made our web content, program brochures and sales sheets stand out, but it was her passion for sustainability that helped us to make an impression.”
From 2007-2008, I managed press coverage for Backpacker magazine’s, Woolrich-sponsored Get Out More tour, empowering audiences nationwide to explore the benefits of getting outdoors. I developed a media database of press contacts, wrote press releases and pitched stories to reporters, landing a feature story in the largest newspaper in Rhode Island my first time out.
“The tour garnered four times the amount of press the tour received the previous year — over 4.5 million media impressions. I was thrilled with her results, and so was the client. Kate is smart, responsible, and lovely to work with. I highly recommend her.”
